HKODA organised a session for Hong Kong Optimist coaches from HKSSA, HKSF, HHYC, RHKYC with international coach and sail maker Maurzio Bencic!  

Maurizio covered the different types of equipment available to the optimist class, especially the various stiffnesses of spars and foils, together with compatibility with different sail shapes and sailor weights. He dispelled some myths while focusing attention on mast and foil flexibility. Also on the importance of good boat maintenance!

Simon Leung from HKSSA commented: "Maurizio shared some essential concepts that we typically overlook, such as the impact of the tightness of corner ties on the leech. He also discussed how stiffness of equipment (such as the centerboard) affects sailors of different weights. Overall, a lot of technical and useful details were covered in this short sharing session that we will share with our sailors soon!"
